St Mary’s High School, Mount Abu, established in 1887 and handed over to
the Congregation of Christian Brothers in India in 1929, is one of the many
educational Institutions in India conducted by the Christian Brothers. This
congregation was founded in 1802 in Ireland for the education of Catholic
children. The CCBI is a Registered Society under the Societies Registrant
Act and has its Head Office at Calcutta.
The
Congregation of Christian Brothers conducts school and colleges throughout
the world, the main object of the congregation is the provision of general
and religious education to Catholic pupils, consequently admission to this
school is primarily for Catholic boys, without excluding boys of other
religious denominations when accommodation is available. There is no
interference whatever in the religious principles and beliefs of
non-Christian students. The Brothers recognize as the most important and
scared part of their duty, the formation of character of those committed to
their care. Moral and ethical instruction, therefore, forms a compulsory
part of curriculum .
St. Mary’s High
School is situated on an elevated plateau with an extensive view of
mountains and valleys and its locale is noted for its delightful walks. It
is about three kilometers from the town of Mount Abu.
The school premises include a chapel, two large ventilated
dormitories, a gymnasium, two fine blocks containing dining room, airy
classrooms, two halls, a library, computer lab and art & craft room. There
is also a detached infirmary in the charge of fully qualified nursing
sister. The school has its own doctor who visit the school every day and as
often as he is needed.
Provision is made for
every outdoor activity. Facilities for hiking football, basketball, cricket,
table tennis and badminton are available. |
- Boys are prepared for the
Indian Certificate of Secondary Education Examination. The school year is
from March to December.
- Courses through the school
are so geared that pupils offer suitable combinations of the following
subjects in the final examination. English Language, Hindi, Literature in
English, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology, History, Geography,
Computer Science, Indian Music and Art.
There are also regular courses in craft, music and elocution and
encouragement is given to the boys to participate in dramatics, general
knowledge competitions, quiz competition, etc.
